He chuckled and took a sip of his wine. At least she was observant. "Well, I'm normally not like this." he replied softly, more for his benefit than hers. "I'm really not that interesting. Just seem to be having an interesting day, is all." Gabrielle flashed her his smile before setting his wine down and repeating the pose he'd had in her office, fingers laced, chin atop them. Of all the things running through his mind, he couldn't find a thing to say, and that truly frightened him; his face never betrayed his emotions. "The Ministry, eh?" Which department?" How he prayed it wasn't Muggle Artifacts. Arthur Weasley had been rumoured to have a female assistant for a short time, and Esme fit the description rather well.

"Department of mysteries." She answered simply not allowed to say anymore then that as she felt herself lossen up in the mans presence watching him intently. He was immaculate from his hair to his shined shoes his apperance was perfect. "Where did you work previously?" She questioned ever the blunt and to the point not even noticeing when her questions could be vergeing on rude or nosy.

All the wizard could do was smile. "Here and there, really." he replied. "Never really found anything that suited me until Hogwarts, but I've always been more at ease here than anywhere else. " Instantly, he regretted that. He needn't be so open with her. For all he knew, she was an Order member waiting for something juicy to report back to her goody-goody leader. "Preparing the world's next generation was always something ..... well, quite indescribable for me." At the moment he thought sourly, perturbed that he couldn't finish his thoughts properly.

"Hogwarts has always been my home." She whispered agreeing fully with him. "I think it's our duty as the older generation to pass on our knowledge." She agreed smiling brightly at him obviously likeing his answer. "Not that these really seem to be the best teaching enviroments." She whispered sadly refering to the many death eaters running around the school.

Riellle's head shifted to the side ever so slightly before he fully understood what she meant. "Oh, it's not that terrible." he muttered just above a whisper. "We could have Ministry investigators around every corner." He offered her a gentle smile, much different from his sly, charming smile. This one seemed more genuine. "I'm sure conditions could be much worse." How right he knew he was.

"Perhaps - but it's not right upon the children, they should be able to work without fear of being tortured if something is wrong." She whispered more to herself her head coming to rest on her hand as she sipped her wine. "They already have so much pressure on them - surronded by war, the exams and now this... it's not fair." She whispered sadly. "Children shouldn't have to face such pressures."

Gabrielle let his lips contort in a sympathetic smile, his right hand coming to grasp Esme's free one. "No, they shouldn't, but, in the long run, it will make them stronger." he whispered, his thumb gently caressing the back of her creamy hand before releasing the appendage and taking a long sip from his wine flute. "Hogwarts, no matter who infiltrates it, will always be the safest place for them. Outside these walls ..." He paused, searching for the right words. "There are many more dangers, that I am sure of." How he wished he wasn't, suddenly. The thought shocked him; his smile faltered but only slightly before he picked it back up, as if he had been thinking of the terrors that shook the world around them rather than wishing for naivety.

Esme was rather shocked when he suddeny grabbed her hand running his thumb over her skin it had been months since anyone had held her hand - it felt strange alien. She placed her hand back in her lap when he releaed it her thumb traceing over the pattern of it he had as if trying to determin why his touch felt different to her own. "Perhaps." She whispered sadly as she glanced over at him. "Every child should have a time of total innocence, we had it." She looked up at him trying to determin how far away from her age he was.

Gabe snorted, quickly covering the possibly offensive remark with a cough, though he hadn't the slightest idea why. It wasn't as if he was trying to befriend her. She is a woman he kept repeating in his mind, hoping that it would change his attitude; it did little to help the situation. "Yes, I suppose we did, didn't we?" he asked, something beneath his tone that said a bit more than he wanted escaping the confinement of his mind.

Esme watched the man before her as he snorted at her comment before covering any remark up. "You are odd." she whispered suddenly instantly regartng her blunt tongue glanceing up hopeing she hadn't offended him. "It's not always a bad thing." She tried to pull herself out the hole she had dug with a gentle smile.

Rielle smiled brightly and finished what was left in his glass before refilling his own and Esme's. "No, it's not." he replied simply. "My oddness has brought me to many a wondrous place." And many a wondrous bed he thought, unable to restrain the smirk that followed. He was definitely interested in this woman, and in more ways than one. The thought alone intrigued him, but he didn't ponder it too long. Disconnecting from the conversation now might drive her away.

"It's intrigueing." She whispered honestly with that bright smile she always wore that seemed to light even the darkest of corners. Her hands came down to fiddle with the top of her slightly creased collar feeling rather like a tramp surronded by this immaculate room. "To many people try to act the same as one another." She whispered looking down at the floor obvious finding it hard to converse with this man for reasons that amazed her.

Gabrielle smiled at her then glaced at the clock at the back of his office. "Goodness, the time." he breathed, standing and taking one last sip of his wine. "Flies so quickly when you're having fun." He nearly slapped himself. Where in all of the corners of his mind did that emerge from? For an instant, his smile dropped, but it was only a fraction of a second before he forced the corners of his mouth up to show off a brilliant smile. "Shall I escort you to your rooms?" he asked bravely, quite sure she would turn him down and insist he leave her alone. Again, his thoughts intrigued and concerned him, but he shook them from his mond, determined to keep a semi-clear head while talking with her; goodness knew he would say something he shouldn't if he didn't.

"Thank you i'd like that i'm a tad prone to getting lost." She admitted as she downed the remainder of her wine raiseing up to her feet making her way to his office door holding it open for the two of them to leave together. "Thank you for the wine." She smiled brightly at him finding this odd man very intrigueing. Esme always found herself intrigued by the people she shouldn't the people who would draw her into all their issues and use her and yet she fell for it everytime despite how she swore each time she never would again.

Gabrielle couldn't help but smile as he walked with the DADA professor down the hallway. "You're quite welcome, and as for getting lost, I'm sure there's a map that could help you find your way." he murmured just loud enough for her to hear. Having been in school with James, he knew very well of the Marauder's Map, but never did he say a word about it. Of course, threats from Sirius Black helped keep his mouth shut, but ... He had never been one to share other people's secrets, no matter how humiliating they were.
